She was discovered as a teen while shopping with her family in Hatillo. She was selected as the first Latina to become a spokeswoman for Estee Lauder. She was born to Betzaida Rodriguez and Eric Smalls and has two sisters. In September 2013, she appeared alongside Karlie Kloss on the cover of Vanity Fair.
