Although somewhat forgotten these days, Max Adalbert was a great name of the German theater at he beginning of the twentieth century. Born Max Kampf in Danzig (now Gdansk in Poland) Max Adalbert worked in Lübeck, St. Gallen (Switzerland), Vienna and Berlin (Kleines Theater, Reinhardt-Bühnen). During the silent period he appeared in two masterpieces by Fritz Lang 'Der müde Tod' and 'Dr. Mabuse der Spieler'. After a few years solely devoted to the boards Adalbert successfully returned to the cinema. He was very good in 'Mein Leopold' but it is 'Der Hauptmann von Köpenick' that earned him most acclaim. A heart attack brutally broke this virtuous circle.
