Ruth is a trained actor (BA Acting, Theatre Nepean UWS), a professional puppeteer (Terrapin Puppet Theatre 1992-1995) and a passionate improviser! (ImproACT & Improventions 2010-16). This year Ruth performed in Chrysalis Theatre's 'Bridesquad', in various 'Switched On' shows with LIghtbulb Theatre at Smith's Alternative, and is performing in 'Canberra Unscripted' Festival. Later this year Ruth will perform for the Street Theatre in 'Under Sedation' directed by Adele Chynoweth. Last year Ruth trained as a TV actor with Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) in their film-makers diploma. In 2016 Ruth performed in 'Mighty Little Puppet Show' at the Melbourne Fringe, in Canberra in her solo work 'Proppets' as part of Chrysalis Theatre's 321 Season, won Best Actress in Sydney Short and Sweet Gala Finals 2016 for her solo performance 'Baby Blues', and won Best Actress in Canberra Short and Sweet 2015. Professional stage productions include 'The Very Sad Fish Lady' (2013) and 'Homefront' (2014) at the Street Theatre. Ruth is also a writer / director and has performed her own solo works including 'Toddler Slap' for Menslink charity show 'Kids Don't Talk' with Ally Cat Productions, 'Sorry I Love You', 'Vanity Insanity', 'Baby Blues', 'In My Head', and 'Under My Bed'; a visual theatre play being developed throughout 2016-17. Ruth has performed in various works in improv festivals 'Improvention' (2010-2016) and an improv actress in many Impro ACT productions (2010-2016). An original devising member with Sydney Fringe company ricochet (1999-2003), Ruth has also acted in various short films, pilots and corporate training events throughout her career. Ruth is a dedicated drama tutor, an independent voice-over artist, a would-be ventriloquist, a budding comedienne, a resident writer in the Street Theatre's 'Hive' program, and works regularly at the Canberra Hospital as a Clown Doctor for the Humour Foundation. Ruth is an ArtsACT grant recipient and is developing her new visual theatre play 'Under My Bed' throughout 2017 in partnership with Canberra Youth Theatre and Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centres.
